Abstract

The Actinic Cheilitis (AC) has as etiological factor the ultraviolet radiation from the sun, it is more common in fair-skinned men, middle-aged to elderly people with occupational or recreation habits outdoor. lt is considered a pre-malignant lesion that can develop into a Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC). Objective: This retrospective study aimed to verify the AC prevalence in 1.057 patients treated at Odontoclínica Central da Marinha (OCM), mostly military with continuous exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Method: A retrospective survey of clinicai records of patients diagnosed with QA and descriptive analysis of the records in terms of gender, skin colar, age, profession, sun exposure time, anatomical location of the lesion, patients who declared themselves smokers and / or drinkers, origin routing and type of diagnosis. Results: 29 patients diagnosed with QA were found, with a predominance of the male gender, Caucasian, with an average age of 40 years and with lesions located on the lower lip. Conclusion: This study concluded on the need for guidance, especially the military of the Navy, and other professionals who work every day in constant sun exposure activities, about the harmful effects of this exposure and consciousness of importance of using sun protection, with health professionals, especially dentists, responsible for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment.
