Abstract

Nursing professionals play a key role in transfusion safety. Not only do they administer transfusions, they must
also know their indications, provide important data to prevent errors, advise patients on transfusion, detect, communicate
and act on transfusion reactions and document the whole process. This study aims to highlight the role of the nurse in the
treatment of transfusion reactions. This is a bibliographic review study carried out in the databases of the Regional Portal
of the Virtual Health Library between 2007 and 2018. The descriptors used for research were: Nursing, Hemotherapy
Service, and Transfusion Reaction. Fifteen sources were used among articles, books, monography, dissertation and publications
of the Ministry of Health. This study shows that Nursing plays a preponderant role in the work process required by
the hemotherapy, because, it needs to keep up-to-date with the procedures aiming at the qualification of the assistance.
