Perda de peso e resultados metabólicos da gastroplastia em Y-de-Roux em homens versus mulheres
Abstract
Grade III obesity is a public health problem in Brazil, especially because it is related to the genesis of so many diseases and their serious consequences, such as hypertension and diabetes. The treatment can be performed through conservative measures or by gastroplasty, with better responses with the latter approach. Studies have shown a great difference between men and women concerning expectations of the surgery success. Objective: To compare weight loss and metabolic outcomes of roux-en-y gastroplasty between men and women. Patients and Methods: A descriptive study was carried out in which patients from two groups, male and female, who underwent Roux-en-Y reductive gastroplasty were investigated for weight loss, hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia after a minimum of 2 years from the surgery . Results: Of the 208 patients investigated, 75.98% were women. The weight loss maintained after 2 years was 82.05%. The remission of hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia were 60.53%, 81.82% and 77.27% respectively. There was a (p = 0.023) in dyslipidemia comparing the surgery results between men and women, being lower in the latter. Conclusion: Reducing Roux-en-Y gastric bypass has a success rate for weight loss greater than 80%. There a significant decrease in comorbidities and a trend towards a better outcome for the female sex, especially those related to dyslipidemia.
