uma revisão de literatura
Abstract
The aim of this study was to review the available scientific literature of some important aspects related to nickel hypersensitivity, its consequences in Orthodontics and clinical procedures that provide hipersensitive patient protection. Allergic reaction to nickel occurs in two different phases: the sensitization phase and the reaction or reexposure phase, when there are peculiar signs and symptoms. Nickel's release in the oral cavity occurs through the corrosion of orthodontic accessories, and it depends on oral cavity conditions and accessories composition features. Among the clinical evidences, the most common ones are: gingival hyperplasia, angular cheilitis, burning sensation, redness and rashes. It can be verified that the knowledge of nickel allergy related issues is crucial for the hypersensitive patient safe orthodontic treatment. Nickel free alternative materials, when correctly indicated, can be used safely and effectively.
