Abstract
Introduction: The Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Service of the Unidade Médica da Esquadra (UMEsq) is responsible for the physical rehabilitation of military stationed at the land military organizations of the Mocanguê Naval Complex and moored ships. The Service promotes the work activities’ return of those who have some kind musculoskeletal system injury, thus reducing the leave time for health treatment, and/or eventual physical restrictions. Objective: to describe the epidemiological profile of musculoskeletal injuries in the military assisted by the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Service of the Unidade Médica da Esquadra from November 30, 2015 to November 30, 2020. Methods: this is a retrospective descriptive observational study based on the analysis of archived information on patients treated at the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Service of the Unidade Médica da Esquadra. The variables analysed were the number of consultations per month and the code of the international statistical classification of health-related diseases and problems. Results: during the study period, 38,669 consultations were undertaken. Regarding trauma, 6,700 consultations were accounted for (17%) and 31,969 were non-trauma consultations (83%). There were 16,226 calls for lower limbs, 10,763 calls for spine, 9,208 calls for upper limbs and 2,472 calls for non-specific areas. Conclusion: this information allows us to know the profile of patients treated by the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Service of the Unidade Médica da Esquadra and help professionals to draw strategies for the treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal injuries of military personnel at the Naval Complex of Mocanguê.
