Abstract

Food irradiation is a physical method of food preservation and disinfection. It is considered safe for consumers. By this technique, the food becomes free of biological contaminants and has a greater durability. Such characteristics being of paramount importance in ensuring the quality of food offered to military troops located far away or in limited hygiene conditions. This article aims to present food irradiation technology and propose its use by the Armed Forces to treat food to be offered to military personnel on mission or to patients in a field hospital.
