Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze the participation of the Brazilian Navy (MB) in the Battle of the Atlantic during World War II. The limitations of the Naval Power, at that time, did not allow the Brazilian Navy to carry out offensive operations on a large scale. However, even with a participation almost restricted to defensive actions, it was fundamental for the defense of the country's maritime communication lines and the Allies on the American coasts and a response to the sinking of Brazilian merchant ships. Operations carried out during the war in the Atlantic Ocean would shape the Brazilian Navy in the coming decades.
