Abstract

The paper presents a study on the diplomatic movements of Brazil to repatriate its diplomats when declaring war on the countries of the Axis. This operation took place in the context of attacks on Brazilian vessels in the Atlantic Ocean, which required a series of diplomatic negotiations from the Itamaraty (Brazilian Foreign Ministry Affairs) to ensure the safety of ambassadors, consuls and their families in the transfer from Europe and Asia to Brazil, as well as Axis diplomatic representatives in South America back to their countries, amid the growing clashes in the Atlantic. The article uses diplomatic documents from the Itamaraty Archive and specialized bibliography on Brazilian participation in World War II as sources.
