Abstract

The aim of this paper is to propose a classification and definition for the eight factors that cause shipwrecks, it seeks the standardization for those who works with Underwater Archaeology. It shows the relationship among the continuous development of ships in length, weight and draft in order to satisfy human necessities of growing and the importance to shipwrecks, as well as provides elements to help the data interpretation and identification of the causes of shipwrecks in general.
